2025 Convincing or Confusing Report

We surveyed 2,025 Australians across all generations and regions and found that while people continue to factor sustainability into purchasing decisions, banking and workplaces, more than 80% remain sceptical of corporate claims. The 2025 Confusing or Convincing report by South Pole and Mobium Group highlights awareness and understanding of common terms like ‘circularity’, ‘nature positive’, ‘regenerative’ and ‘science-based targets’ are very limited, yet when explained clearly, these terms significantly boost consumer trust and purchase intent. South Pole is committed to reaching net zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across our value chain by 2040. Our near-term target is to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 72% by 2030 from a 2019 base year and commit to reducing scope 3 emissions from air-related business travel 91.5% per FTE by 2030 from a 2019 base year. South Pole further commits to reduce all other absolute scope 3 emissions from business travel 27.5% by 2030 from a 2019 base year. In line with South Pole’s goal to achieve net zero GHG emissions, our long-term target is to reduce absolute scope 1,2 and 3 emissions 90% by 2040 from a 2019 base year.
