Barangaroo is a mixed-use precinct in Sydney built to be sustainable today and for the future. It is certified as carbon neutral under Climate Active and incorporates water-wise design with zero waste emissions. The development sets a new standard for sustainable urban design that creates a healthy environment for people to live, work and play. The precinct includes 75,000 native trees and shrubs covering 45 species, planted using a whole-of-site sustainable approach with reused crushed sandstone compost.

Barangaroo Sustainability Actions

Carbon Neutral Certification

Barangaroo achieved certification as Australia's first mixed-use precinct certified as carbon neutral under Climate Active and has successfully maintained this status for over five years as of June 2024.

Native Tree and Shrub Planting

75,000 native trees and shrubs covering 45 species were planted at Barangaroo Reserve using a whole-of-site sustainable approach with compost made from reused crushed sandstone.

Green Energy Agreement

Barangaroo entered into a groundbreaking green energy agreement to ensure both its carbon neutrality and a sustainable energy future.
