Rio 2016 Olympic Games implemented a comprehensive sustainability programme that received ISO 20121 certification following third-party audit. The initiative aimed to reduce environmental footprint, promote sustainable social and urban transformations, and set new standards for sustainable management of major sporting events. Sustainability was embedded across planning and operations, with focus on environmental awareness, renewable energy use, air quality improvement, and soil management.
