Sleeptite Sustainability Profile

Sleeptite is an innovative small company, focusing on the importance of quality care for Australia’s ageing population. The family history behind this business is determined to improve sleep quality and intelligence. This is why Sleeptite, although currently focusing on the aged care industry, is building the foundations of smart-data solutions resolving sleep and other individual issues through interactions with day-to-day products (beds, chairs etc.). Sleeptite’s initial focus is The Aged Care sector, with potential to expand into other sectors. They are focused on two main products which support the initial stages of their growth and expansion, as below: 1. SIRIUS Adjustable beds - This was designed in-house primarily for comfort and durability, with both the carer and the resident in mind 2. REMi - Not commercialised yet, but it is in deep levels of R&D with RMIT Sleeptite’s REMi innovation will improve carer workflows in Aged Care settings. The value of this technology will be in providing insight into resident status over the course of each night. However, the apparent scope of use is already seeing traction beyond the aged care sector. Sleeptite’s founder and team are acutely aware of the sustainably driven market and have already committed to sustainability through external avenues. They are now committed to a direct Sleeptite Sustainability Policy Framework, which brings together their vision, commitments, and a pathway of aligned action as a business that talks and walks tall in these commitments. Sleeptite has started its sustainability journey and made official commitments that position it as a conscious business.

REMi non-invasive aged care resident monitoring and alert system

Sleeptite have partnered with RMIT and Sleepeezee Bedding Australia to develop REMi, which will support residents and the care workforce in the aged care sector. This technology is set to revolutionise the Aged Care sector by improving the current carer workflows. By implementing a continuous night time monitoring and alert system, carers can prioritising alerts according to resident status. The current gold-standard night time monitoring process carers follow is an hourly door check, which can be invasive to the resident, and can be a waste of time for the carer. Due to REMi's continuous monitoring, carers would not have to conduct these checks, freeing up their time to assist residents that need help. REMi is the result of an exceptional research and industry collaboration with significant translation of research into a commercially viable product which will result in better health, economic and community outcomes locally and internationally. The commercialisation of REMi exhibits how industry and research entities can work superbly together to create innovations that will deliver real and enduring value to the community of Australia and beyond.

Operating an R&D Office and Laboratory at RMIT - supported by government funding programs

Sleeptite's patented stretchable sensors, combined with the techniques developed through our Round 5 Cooperative Research Centers Project (CRC-P) (2018-21) have delivered the functional research prototype – establishing the model for the REMi product. The close collaboration between Sleeptite, RMIT and Sleepeezee continues the product development journey through an Australian Manufacturing Growth Center (AMGC) Commercialisation Fund grant (2021-present) to up-scale REMi hardware and electronics for commercial readiness and provide in-house sensor manufacturing capability and infrastructure – to deliver a commercial first-generation consumer product that can be manufactured at scale. From September 2023, with funding support from the Victorian Medical Research Acceleration Fund (VMRAF), our collaboration will embark on a 2-year project to transform our validated and trialled technology from a consumer care product into a medical grade device to determine and manage risk of pressure injury and guide patient-centred care approaches.
