UC has adopted stronger climate goals to eliminate 90 percent of University greenhouse gas emissions by 2045. Despite significant growth in population and building space, UC has reduced its total scope 1 and scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 15% since the Carbon Neutrality Initiative began.

In FY 2023–24, UC campuses were ranked as leaders in sustainability by a wide range of organizations and publications.
