We’re thrilled to announce a significant milestone for the Australian Bedding Stewardship Council (ABSC)!
In just under 12 months, our retail membership has quadrupled, welcoming 10 new retailers under our revamped scheme structure. This remarkable growth is a testament to the dedication and tireless efforts of the ABSC team.
Our expanding membership now encompasses a diverse range of retailers, including both established brick-and-mortar stores and innovative online platforms. Together, they represent over 600 storefronts across every state and territory in Australia, demonstrating a nationwide commitment to sustainable bedding practices.
This exponential growth is crucial for advancing our four strategic pillars: Rethink, Redesign, Reuse, and Recycle. Product stewardship is more than just end-of-life recycling. It’s about fundamentally rethinking our business models and consumer behaviours. It’s about designing products for longevity, repairability, efficient resource recovery, and circularity. And it’s about connecting reusable bedding with communities in need, ensuring a positive social impact.
Retailers are integral to driving change in the bedding industry. They are the crucial link between producers and consumers, and their participation is essential for the success of our product stewardship scheme.
Responding to Evolving Consumer Expectations: Today’s consumers are increasingly environmentally conscious and demand sustainable products and practices. By joining the ABSC, retailers demonstrate their commitment to meeting these expectations and building trust with their customers.
Enhancing Brand Reputation: Aligning with a reputable product stewardship scheme enhances a retailer’s brand reputation and positions them as a leader in sustainability.
Meeting Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Obligations: Retailers recognise the growing importance of EPR and are proactively embracing their role in minimising the environmental impact of bedding products.
Driving Innovation and Collaboration: Our scheme fosters collaboration and innovation across the industry. Retailers gain access to valuable resources, best practices, and networking opportunities to drive sustainable solutions.
Future Proofing their business: By participating in a circular economy scheme, retailers are helping to future proof their business against upcoming regulations, and resource scarcity.
We extend a warm welcome to our new retail members and express our sincere gratitude to all our partners for their ongoing support. Together, we are building a more sustainable future for the Australian bedding industry. We encourage all our members to leverage the resources and opportunities provided by the ABSC to drive positive change within their businesses and communities.
Stay tuned for upcoming initiatives and events that will further support our shared commitment to sustainable bedding.
