Published ESG and climate reports

ANZ publishes regular ESG and climate reports that explain its performance, risks, and progress on sustainability goals. It says these reports are made for investors, customers, and other stakeholders, and that they use reporting frameworks such as the GRI Standards (global rules for sustainability reporting) and TCFD (a climate disclosure framework). The bank also says its reports include data packs, climate reports, and older sustainability reviews, which suggests a long-running reporting process.

Set 2030 emissions targets

ANZ says it has set a new target to cut combined Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 85% by 2030, using 2024 as the baseline. Scope 1 means direct emissions from things the bank controls, like buildings and vehicles. Scope 2 means emissions from purchased electricity. The bank says it had already reached an earlier 2030 target of a 90% cut against a 2015 baseline, so it reset the goal to a tougher starting point.

Backed sustainable finance

ANZ says it supports customers with green, social, sustainability, and sustainability-linked finance products. It says it has helped develop these markets across Australia, New Zealand, and Asia, and that it works across debt capital markets and loan syndications. The bank also says it has been a market leader in green, social, and sustainability bonds and loans. This is part of its wider plan to help customers fund lower-carbon and socially useful projects.

Supported housing investment

ANZ says housing is one of its main ESG priorities. It reports funding more than $800 million for Queensland Government housing investment work, including social and affordable homes in Greater Brisbane and regional Queensland. It also says it delivered 1,443 homes through this initiative. The bank has a wider target to fund and facilitate at least $10 billion by 2030 for homes that are more affordable, accessible, or sustainable.

Worked with climate partners

ANZ says it has formed partnerships to support the shift to net zero. In 2022, it entered a strategic partnership with Pollination, a climate and nature advisory and investment firm, to help customers transition to net zero. It also says it works with the Energy Efficiency Council on reports about energy efficiency. These partnerships are meant to support customer transition plans and wider climate action.
