Beartooth Group is a Bozeman-based firm focused on ranch real estate in the Northern Rockies, primarily in Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming. Its work centres on buying distressed or overlooked ranch properties, resolving legal and title issues, restoring creeks, wetlands and habitat, and then selling or restructuring the land in ways that can create both financial and environmental value. The company says it works with landowners, brokers, managers and conservation professionals, and often seeks conservation outcomes alongside agricultural and wildlife benefits. Its stated approach is to restore, enhance and steward the American West through investment in people and places.

Restored Otter Creek Ranch

Otter Creek Ranch, MT. Value Creation: Legal & Title Cleanup, Hazardous Material Cleanup, River & Wetland Restoration, Regenerative Agriculture, Conservation Impact, Climate Change Mitigation, Climate Change Adaptation. The ranch came with two 50-acre islands in the Yellowstone River. We worked with Trout Unlimited, Montana Freshwater Partners, and Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks in an effort to transfer the islands to the State of Montana to ensure public access and permanent protection of this important resource.

Protected Willow Creek

The 768-acre Willow Creek Preserve has 2 miles of restored trout water. Beartooth acquired, restored, and then sold the property to a conservation buyer. The creek passes an old farmhouse, where willow seedlings now provide shelter for a resurgent trout population, and uplands, where a regenerative agriculture operation is now in place.

Restored Madison Spring Creeks

Planning, permitting, and restoring four miles of Madison Spring Creeks and acres of wetlands is a typical multiyear undertaking for Beartooth Group.

Protected Summit Spring Ranch

Beartooth bought Summit Spring Ranch east of the Idaho’s Salmon-Challis National Forest. A deal with the Nature Conservancy added 623 acres and road access. In exchange, Beartooth permanently protected 1,960 acres, or just over half of the property, through a conservation easement held by The Nature Conservancy.

Protected acres and waterways

Of the nearly 30,000 acres Beartooth has bought, the most ecologically important 15,000 have been protected, often in partnership with conservation organizations. Beartooth has protected 15,000 acres and has restored 45 miles of rivers and creeks through 34 conservation and restoration projects with 41 private, non-profit and government partners.
