Founded as no-fly travel company

Cat Jones founded no-fly travel company Byway in March 2020. "Even before the pandemic, there was a surge in consumer consciousness and the number of businesses being built on sustainability," she says. "With the first lockdown coming, I knew that if there was ever a time to give people a travel experience grounded in the fact that they aren’t flying, this was it."

B Corp Certified in 2021

The day after Cat Jones founded Byway Travel in March 2020, she set on the mission to become B Corp Certified. That mission was realised in December 2021, though the rail specialist is aware that B Corp means continuing to progress when it comes to people, planet and profit.

Designed flight-free trips

Byway partnered with The Netherlands Board of Tourism and Conventions to help holidaymakers enjoy everything the country has to offer – its cities, coast and countryside – in a sustainable way. To do this, we designed a series of flight-free trips to places like Utrecht, Breda and Haarlem, dispersing visitors to different parts of the country in a way that minimises CO2 emissions.

At the heart of Byway’s approach is a commitment to slow, sustainable travel using two million miles of local expertise. Their itineraries prioritise scenic train routes, ferries and other lower-impact forms of transportation that connect travelers more closely with the landscapes and communities they pass through.
