Founded sustainable footwear brand

Wilson Hsu (CEO & Founder of CCILU) established CCILU International Inc. with an aim to make a difference. Understanding that the footwear and apparel industry contributes the most to global carbon emission, Wilson built the company in 2012 and launched the brand CCILU in Japan.

Upcycled waste into products

CCILU’s product portfolio has a wide range of unique products manufactured from upcycled coffee grounds, upcycled ocean plastics, upcycled silicon slurries, upcycled agricultural and aquacultural wastes, etc. CCILU successfully upcycles the spent coffee grounds and turns them into sustainable and high-performance sneakers, boots, socks, and clothing.

Launched XpreSole collection

Among the several products, the XpreSole® collection has gained global popularity among consumers. XpreSole® series is made from through the upcycled coffee grounds. The methodology involves making the line of products sustainable and high-performance products.

Expanded into recycled apparel

After five years of development, CCILU has introduced the Greenplax® Ocean Guard All-Weather Jacket—our first outerwear piece made primarily from recycled fishing nets. In parallel, we are working with the Taiwan-based Azure Alliance to support ongoing ocean cleanup efforts, linking product development with tangible environmental action.

Secured financing for recycled shoes

ITRI helped Ccilu by using their core technology patents for recycled waste shoe manufacturing as collateral for financing, helping them secure a credit guarantee from the TSMEG and obtain bank financing of NT$30 million. This not only monetized the intangible assets of this startup but also added value to their technology.

Sold recycled shoes in 2023

Ccilu International Inc. sold 500,000 pairs of ecofriendly recycled shoes in 2023, reducing carbon emissions and contributing to Taiwan’s 2050 net-zero carbon emissions goal.
