Clean Up Australia Sustainability Actions

Mobilising Clean Ups Across Communities, Schools and Businesses

Every one of us has the power to make a real difference and help create a cleaner Australia through a Clean Up Activity. People can join a local Clean Up, host their own, or support the movement through a donation, and every action contributes. By coming together to take practical action on waste, no matter the scale, we can protect and preserve our beautiful country for generations to come. Business Clean Ups include a fee, which helps fund free Clean Up materials for schools and community groups. https://www.cleanup.org.au/register-a-clean-up/

Shaping Future Environmental Leaders Through Education

Education is central to our long-term impact. Through partnerships such as Cool.org, our sustainability lesson plans reach more than 220,000 educators nationwide. Our downloadable Education Guide and Online Hub resources also support environmental learning both inside and outside the classroom. By engaging young Australians early, we are helping shape future behaviours, attitudes and expectations around waste and sustainability. https://www.cleanup.org.au/education-hub/

Collaborating with Councils to strengthen local impact

252 councils supported the Clean Up Australia Day 2026 campaign, helping communities take part in local Clean Up activities nationwide. Supporting Councils work with Clean Up Australia to enable and strengthen these activities in their communities. This includes support such as rubbish collection, provision of materials, and assistance with local engagement and events. Through this collaboration, councils play a key role in helping communities take practical action on waste.

Advocating for change

We advocate for stronger action on litter prevention, waste reduction and the transition to a circular economy by representing the voices of our volunteers. This work is supported through our annual Litter Report, which provides national insights into litter trends. Together, these insights help inform government, industry and community decision-making and drive more effective responses to waste challenges. https://www.cleanup.org.au/advocacy-projects/

Our Annual Litter Report

Clean Up Australia’s annual Litter Report is a snapshot of litter removed by volunteers during a financial year. Since 1991, the Litter Report has proven to be an invaluable resource in identifying trends in the types and spread of litter throughout Australia. It continues to demonstrate the importance of refusing, reducing, re-using and recycling rubbish.
