Launched digital insurance in Kenya

Kenya is our first country of operations. Together with our daughter company, DDFinance Kenya, we have innovated, developed, and piloted Collective Based-Insurance (CBI). CBI is built on digitizing informal trust and reputation within collectives. Today DDFinance Kenya operates a fully digital insurance market system in Kenya.

Improved access to insurance

DDFinance is a Norwegian insurance and automation specialist, established to enable low-cost insurance for the uninsured low-income populations globally. The market system connects local insurance companies’ capacity to underwrite and carry risks directly with low-income consumers. Based on digital low-cost insurance workflows, the market system allows for profitable insurance products at very low premium levels.

Reported social impact areas

Customers: Get access to health and life insurance cover – in most cases for the first time in their lives. Beneficiaries: More young mothers can afford to give birth at hospitals – safer than delivery at home. Impact on Suppliers: More business for a multitude of DDFinance Kenya suppliers. Communities: Better personal health through better access to customer payment for health services. Government: A rare opportunity to improve national insurance penetration.

Achieved B Lab certification

2020 DDFinance Burundi Initiated Burundi feasibility studies initiated. B Lab's certification achieved by documenting social performance, accountability, and transparency. Investments in IPaaS development work tripled.

Joined Mastercard Lighthouse MASSIV

DDFinance is selected as 1 of 5 companies in Mastercard’s Lighthouse MASSIV program. The programme gathers promising Fintechs from the Baltic and the North to grow through partnerships and cooperation. The nomination supports an extension and deepening of partner cooperation for DDFinance, boosting progress towards reaching our vision: To strengthen resilience among low-income households.

Signed We Effect agreement

DDFinance has signed a service provider agreement with We Effect East Africa. Through this deal farmers across Kenya get access to insurance products from DDFinance. With Life- and Hospital Cash Insurance from DDFinance, these farmers – and their families – gets a financial safety net in case of sickness or death.
