Dickinson College infuses sustainability throughout the institution and uses the campus, community, and study-abroad locations as living laboratories for sustainable operations. The college offers over 100 courses annually that help students gain knowledge about sustainability concepts, problems, and solutions. The Center for Sustainability Education creates, enhances, and connects opportunities for learning about sustainability both in and out of the classroom. Dickinson has affirmed sustainability as a defining characteristic of the college through its Strategic Plan.

Reduced greenhouse gas emissions

Dickinson has reduced its emissions of greenhouse gas pollutants significantly and reached zero net emissions in 2020.

Faculty sustainability integration

A faculty workshop for sustainability has helped over 150 Dickinson faculty connect the subject areas of their teaching with sustainability using active learning pedagogies.

Waste reduction programs

Dickinson is committed to reducing materials consumption, reusing materials, recycling and composting.
