Digital Pharaoh Sustainability Actions

Digital sustainability strategy

The purpose of this strategy is to set out Defra group vision to minimise the environmental, economic and social impact of its ICT operations. It encompasses data centres, cloud services, digital workplace devices, software, data, supply chain and vendor relationships. The strategy is intended to be the comprehensive and authoritative plan for our digital sustainability approach from 2025 to 2030.

Refurbished devices as default

Defra has become the first government department to adopt refurbished devices as default, delivering longer device lifespans, lower energy use and better value for money.

GDSA Summit held in London

The second Government Digital Sustainability Alliance (GDSA) Summit was hosted at One Great George Street in London and organised by Defra’s digital sustainability team in collaboration with Think Digital Partners. Across eight panel discussions, over 40 speakers explored net zero and scope 3 emissions, circular economy, water use in data centres, artificial intelligence, social value, digital inclusion, and climate resilience.
