Ecosa Sustainability Actions

Ecosa Recyling Program

We aim to repurpose unwanted mattresses by recycling them. We created an easy and accessible way to recycle your old and unwanted mattresses and bed sheets, rather than letting them be sent to landfills. Mattress Recydling: We have partnered with companies that will collect your old mattress from the front of your house, so you don’t need to hire a vehicle to transport your old and heavy mattress. After your mattress is collected, it is inspected in a local warehouse. Any mattress in good condition is sent to a charity, whilst the rest are taken apart, and the individual components are recycled. Bed Sheets/Textiles Recycling: The bedding process is even simpler. Simply place your bedding into a box, generate an AusPost label through Ecosa and take your sheets-filled box to your nearest Australia Post office, where it will then be delivered to our textile recycling partner.

Ecosa Materials: OceanCycle™ Fabric

We recently made changes to include recycled materials where possible. We’re proud to say that our mattress covers and sofa bed/ottoman are OceanCycle certified and made from ocean recycled plastic bottles, which helps to reduce plastic pollution in our oceans. They’re also Oeko-Tex 100 Certified, meaning no nasty chemicals were used to create our products. Between 80-120 bottles are repurposed to create each mattress cover and 300-400 bottles for each sofa bed. Ecosa are paving the way for new mattresses and furniture to be created from post-consumer recycled materials and therefore reducing how much plastic we create and consume.

Ecosa Materials: Our Foams

Our mattress foams contain no irritants and no harmful chemicals. Organic Latex Foam: The Ecosa Pure Mattress is made from organic latex foam. Natural latex is harvested from rubber trees; however, the trees do not need to be cut down, making the production process sustainable and carbon-neutral. We only use 100% organic latex with no plastics or fillers added, plus it’s Oeko-Tex 100 Certified. Memory Foam: We’re proudly CertiPUR-US certified and aim to keep our levels of assessed substances and emissions well below the approved minimum. Some mattress foams emit high levels of nasty Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC’s) that compromise the air quality in your home, but Ecosa consciously ensures we work with the best quality materials and pass on the health benefits to you and the planet. Unlike most memory foam mattresses, we use 30% bio-oil in our Ecosa Mattress. It’s not perfect, but we’re working on 100% sustainable foams, as we only want to work with the best quality materials and pass on the health benefits to you and the planet.

Ecosa Materials: Our Wood

Our bed bases and bedside tables are crafted from solid timber, often known as the world’s most sustainable building material. We use FSC certified American Ash to ensure our products are built to last, not only improving the environmental impact of manufacturing but reducing the amount of bedroom furniture going to landfills. By building timber products that last, you get to enjoy our solid craftsmanship for generations. We also use 95% less glue to create our bed bases and bedside tables compared to furniture made from plywood and other cheap wooden materials.

Ecosa Materials: Our Bedding

Organic Bamboo: Our 100% organic bamboo bedding range is manufactured and dyed using responsible processes that reduce energy consumption. By using cooler water - and less of it - we minimise our impact on the planet while bringing you silky soft sheets that last for years to come. Organic Flax Linen: Our European flax linen is sustainably made to last a lifetime, thanks to linen’s natural properties that makes it ultra-durable and gets better with age. Our flax linen goes through a sustainable production process known as dew retting. Dew retting involves leaving flax plant stems out in fields so dewfall and warm temperatures can separate the fibres from the plant when typical separation practices use chemicals or excess water. Organic Silk and Cotton: Organic silk and cotton are other staples in our bedding range. We source 100% pure mulberry silk for our Silk Pillowcase, using 30 momme silk to ensure a strong and durable product that is made to last a long time with proper care. Our Luxe Quilt is made from 100% pure silk long strand floss and 400TC Pima cotton, creating a dreamy sleeping experience that is hypoallergenic and free from nasty chemicals. All silk and cotton are sustainably sourced, and our quilts and silk pillowcases are 100% biodegradable at the end of their life. Our Zips: The humble zip can have a bigger impact than you might think. The zips on our mattress covers are made from recycled plastic by leading sustainable zip manufacturer, SAB, the first zip manufacturer to be certified by the Global Recycle Standard. SAB creates OceanCycle certified zips by collecting plastic water bottles from the ocean and repurposing them, which reduces plastic pollution in our oceans and gives waste a purpose.

Ecosa Materials: Our Packaging

We’re working towards using no plastic in our products and packaging, but that’s still a dream for now. We used recycled and recyclable materials where possible, like plastic-free packaging tape and our new mattress boxes!

All Returns Donated

Any Ecosa mattress or pillow that is returned to us is donated to families in need. No Ecosa returns go to landfill.

Remove Plastic from the Yarra River

We, Ecosa participated in the Yarra Plastic Paddle, organised by Yarra Riverkeeper Association back in December 2021. We built kayaks from plastic bottles and lids found littering the your local community and paddle them down the Yarra River to collect rubbish. We successfully collected more than 500 plastic bottles that day! Together, we can make the world a better place.
