Fostering Conscious Consumerism in the Beauty Industry

Enbacci is an Australian-made luxury skincare brand that is formulated with sustainably sourced fruit and plant stem cell technology (which was recognised as an eco breakthrough at the Rio20+ Sustainability Conference in 2012). Enbacci is on a mission to disrupt the beauty industry. Fostering conscious consumerism and as advocates of changing consumerist behaviour, we actively steer ourselves away from fear-based marketing that has, for too long, dominated the beauty industry. In doing so, we are also embracing a community and society of inclusivity and diversity.

Enbacci Skincare Sustainability Actions

Sustainably Sourced Fruit & Plant Stem Cells

At Enbacci, we are best known for our product formulations that incorporate the power of fruit and plant stem cells. We currently formulate with grape stem cells, apple stem cells and flower stem cells from a flower that has survived that last Ice Age. The technology behind sourcing these ingredients was recognised as an eco breakthrough at the Rio20+ Sustainability Conference in 2012. Very little plant material is required in order to cultivate a large batch of stem cells for product formulation. Therefore, little to no agricultural land is required and as such, there is a significant reduction of water consumption compared to conventional biomass production. There is also no need for fertiliser or pesticides, so these toxins are not being introduced into the environment. The cultivation process supports conservation practices. An example of this is through the variety of apple we use. It is known as the Uttwiler Spätlauber, which is famously known for its longevity and storability. There are, unfortunately, very few trees of the Uttwiler Spätlauber left in the world. As such, this particular variety was integrated into Swiss National Action Plan for the Conservation of Plant Genetic Resources in Food and Agriculture and is protected by the ProSpecie Rara (a Swiss, non-profit foundation whose purpose is to conserve and promote genetic diversity of flora and fauna). A majority of the remaining trees are organically cultivated by local Swiss farmer, who supplies his fruit for stem cell cultivation!

CDS Victoria East Drop Off Point

Enbacci's Melbourne Flagship is Victoria's most successful over-the-counter Container Deposit Scheme drop-off point, helping our community to create a cleaner stream of material for recycling and reduce the number of bottles, cans and containers ending up in landfill or on local streets. Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme (VDS Vic) is an initiative that will provide a 10 cent refund to Victorias for every eligible drink container they return, from 1 November 2023.

Hard to Recycle Collection Point

Enbacci's Melbourne Flagship located at 552 High Street, Prahran, VIC, is now a collection point for hard to recycle items. From used batteries, to coffee pods and even balloons, we work with a list of independently run recyclers to prevent these items ending up in landfill. For a full list of items we collect, please visit: https://www.enbacci.com/pages/enbacci-full-recycle-items.

Guest Speaker at the 6th UN Belt & Road Women's Forum

Enbacci Co-Founder Yong-Li Zhou was honoured to be invited as a guest speaker at the 6th United Nations Belt & Road Women's Forum, taking the stage to address one of the most defining conversations of our time: Women's Power Leading Innovation and Sustainable Development. In a room of visionary leaders, policymakers, and changemakers from across the globe, Yong-Li brought her perspective as an entrepreneur, innovator, and advocate for conscious business — sharing how women-led vision is not only reshaping industries, but redefining what sustainable progress truly looks like. At Enbacci, this spirit is woven into everything we do. From the way we formulate to the way we lead, we believe that purpose-driven innovation — guided by the values women bring to the table — is the future of beauty and beyond.

i=Change Partnership

In 2022, Enbacci partnered with i=Change. An organisation that helps e-commerce businesses support a range of local or global projects. A minimum of $1 from every online purchase is donated towards one of three projects of the brands choice. The three projects we support are Empower with Literacy, Protect a Woman and Clean the Seas. Through just these three projects, we are supporting a number of the UN sustainability development goals.

Enbacci Skincare Sustainability Commitments

2022

Eco-conscious formulations

When Enbacci launched in 2013, we were focused on creating effective formulations. While some of our products (like our Microdermabrasion Exfoliating Scrub) were developed with the environment in mind, not all products received the same attention. Fast forward 10 years, we now know that we can in fact do more with product formulations to reduce our ecological footprint, thanks to advancement in procurement technologies. So going forward, all NPDs will be developed eco-consciously.

2023

Reducing Scope 3 Emissions

As a business that works with contract manufacturers and suppliers, we are evaluating are scope 3 emissions and together with our suppliers, are actively working on ways in which we can produce less carbon emissions.

2023

FSC Accredited Suppliers

Working with sustainable suppliers is a strategy we implement at Enbacci to ensure we are promoting sustainability and sustainable practices. While most of our suppliers are FSC Accredited, we will be committing to ensuring that by Q2 2023, all production and manufacturing going forward will be conducted by FSC Accredited suppliers.
