Ferrero Group Sustainability Actions

Published annual sustainability reports

Ferrero says it has published sustainability reports every year, with the 2025 report described as its 17th. The reports cover progress across its value chain, including sourcing, climate, packaging, responsible marketing, and people. The company also provides a GRI index (Global Reporting Initiative index, a standard way to map what is reported) and older report archives. This shows a long-running effort to track and share sustainability data rather than only making broad claims.

Improved ingredient traceability

Ferrero reported high traceability for key ingredients in its 2024/25 year. It said cocoa reached 98% traceability to farm polygon maps, palm oil reached 98.6% to plantation, hazelnuts reached 97% to farmer, and coffee reached 100% to plantation polygon maps. Traceability means the company can follow ingredients back to where they came from. Ferrero also said it analyzed nearly 230,000 supply chain polygons through an EUDR-aligned process, which supports deforestation-free sourcing under the EU Deforestation Regulation.

Used certified raw materials

Ferrero said most of its key commodity volumes were sourced through certifications or other independently managed standards. It reported that 99% of cocoa volumes came through schemes such as Rainforest Alliance, Cocoa Horizons, and Fairtrade, while 100% of palm oil volumes were RSPO-certified. RSPO stands for the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil, a standard that sets rules for more responsible palm oil production. Ferrero also said 100% of its coffee beans were Rainforest Alliance Certified under a segregated supply chain model.

Cut emissions and used renewable power

Ferrero said its Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions fell by 7.2% year on year. Scope 1 and 2 are direct emissions from its own operations and emissions from purchased energy. The company also said 24 plants were running on 100% renewable electricity from the grid. It launched a Decarbonization Hub to help sites build practical plans to lower emissions. These steps show work on climate impact inside factories and across operations.

Redesigned packaging to use less plastic

Ferrero said 92.9% of its overall packaging was designed for recyclability, reusability, or compostability, and 86.8% was recyclable, reusable, or compostable in practice and at scale. It also said it reduced the plastic-to-product ratio in Ferrero Rocher boxes by 14.7% versus the 2019/20 baseline, avoiding about 16,000 tons of plastic since September 2021. The company also reported replacing around 95% of plastic spoons in Kinder Joy eggs with paper spoons.

Expanded community and child programs

Ferrero said it continued partnerships that support farming communities, including work with Save the Children in Côte d’Ivoire. It said the program is set to reach 235 cocoa-producing communities by 2030. In earlier reporting, Ferrero said its partnership with Save the Children had already helped thousands of direct and indirect beneficiaries in cocoa-growing areas. It also said its Joy of Moving program reached more than 4.9 million children in 35 countries in 2025 and more than 60 million children since 2005.
