FNQ Hooked Sustainability Actions

Set first environmental goals

In 2021, Fortune Brands set its first company-wide environmental goals. These focused on cutting carbon emissions and using more renewable energy, which means energy from sources that can be replaced naturally, like wind or solar. The company said this was an important step in dealing with climate change. It also said it wanted to lead in three areas: water, wood, and recycling. This shows a move from general ESG talk to more specific environmental targets.

Expanded ESG reporting

The company improved its environmental, health and safety data system so it could share more detailed environmental information. Its 2021 ESG report included global environmental data, which helps stakeholders see the company’s impact more clearly. It also published its first Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) and Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) indices. These are reporting frameworks that help companies explain ESG risks and performance in a more standard way.

Built water-saving products

Moen’s Smart Water Network was presented as a product that helps people monitor water use and spot leaks before major water loss happens. The company also said its Mission Moen programme aims to create water-saving products that could help end users save up to 1 trillion gallons of water by 2030. This is a product-level action because it links design work to lower water use in homes.

Used recycled materials

The company said Fiberon’s PE composite products are made almost entirely from recycled wood and plastic. PE stands for polyethylene, a common type of plastic. The material mix suggests an effort to reuse waste materials instead of relying only on new raw materials. The company also said it keeps working on water recycling, energy efficiency, waste management, and reuse where possible.

Improved employee engagement

In 2021, the company ran its first global employee engagement survey. It said the workforce was about 28,000 people, including many plant and distribution workers. The survey was used to collect feedback and guide action. The company also said it developed a broader equity strategy to support diversity, equity and inclusion, and it added mental health resources and wellness support for staff.

Started new community partnerships

The company said it increased community support in 2021 and began multi-year partnerships with nonprofits such as Rebuilding Together and Yellowstone Forever. These partnerships were described as part of its wider social and community work. The material does not give full details of the projects, but it shows the company linking ESG work with local and charitable support.
