Glass Of Venice Sustainability Actions

Handmade Murano glass products

All Venetian Glass products sold in the online store are hand-made by skilled master glass-blowers in a traditional factory on Murano Island in Venice, Italy. Every piece is crafted one-at-a-time using traditional glass-making techniques and every product is special and unique.

Supported glass conservation talk

Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) and the Musei Civici di Venezia (MUVE) organized a public talk focused on sustainable practices in glass conservation. The talk provided a decision-making model that utilizes greener thinking and helps conservators make informed decisions about conservation practices that minimize environmental impact while still maintaining the standards of conservation.

Murano upcycling exhibition

From 7th September 2023 to 28th April 2024, the Murano Glass Museum hosted the exhibition "MURANO: UPCYCLING GLASS". The exhibition presented around 40 creations by 15 master glassmakers using clear, colourless recycled glass made from secondary raw materials, and was described as an opportunity to discuss recycling glass and energy-related matters.

Aman Venice water conservation

Aman Venice gives guests opportunities to opt out of having towels and sheets unnecessarily changed, so as to have a lighter environmental touch. Whenever turnover is declined by guests, Aman Venice donates to a local charity. The laundry service comes by boat every two days, with linens delivered in cloth bags, never paper or plastic.

LED lighting transition

Aman Venice is one of the few historic palazzos in Venice to be entirely illuminated by LED lighting, even down to its chandeliers. Motion sensors and an intelligent lighting system help optimise efficiency, and the property says its journey to a more sustainable way of being has included a full transition to this lighting.

Marine activism with Marevivo

Aman Venice works with the non-profit Marevivo, affiliated with University Ca’ Foscari Venezia, to look after protected marine areas, tackle pollution, and help promote environmental education. Team members volunteer to help with clean-ups, and plastic bottles have been eliminated from the premises.

Local and social supply chain

Aman Venice works with social cooperative and family-run enterprises. Ingredients served are organic, seasonal and come from suppliers certified in a way that supports a zero-kilometre and high-animal-welfare code of ethics. Pasticceria Giotto, a social-enterprise bakery in a prison, is named as one supplier.

No-waste cooking and local menus

Seasonal ingredients are showcased throughout the dining experiences, including the "Cook the Lagoon" private dinners at the Palazzo Kitchen Table. The menu uses fresh produce and seafood from the nearby market, and the property says it honours climate-friendly vegan and vegetarian choices, even with tasting menus.

Craftsmanship and local skills

Aman Venice works to protect declining skills through regenerative interior design and by engaging guests with local talents. It works closely with the Associazione Piazza San Marco to support endeavours to encourage sensitive, tailor-made tourism, and it supports family-run Berta Battiloro and Byzantine glass-mosaic makers.
