Bought over 12 GW of clean energy

Google says it signed agreements in 2025 to buy over 12 gigawatts (GW) of new clean energy. A GW is a large unit of power. The company says this was its biggest yearly total so far and that it helped it keep matching all of its electricity use with renewable energy purchases for the ninth year in a row. It also says these deals include power purchase agreements (long-term contracts to buy electricity) and other energy contracts.

Cut operational emissions in 2025

Google reports that its operational emissions fell by 2% in 2025 even though its electricity demand kept growing fast. It says this happened while it was expanding data centers and buying more clean power. The company also says its broader value-chain efforts, including hardware and software efficiency and clean energy buying, helped avoid over 58 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2e, a way to measure greenhouse gases together) in 2025.

Replenished water at data centers

Google says its water stewardship projects replenished about 7.7 billion gallons of water in 2025, which it says was roughly 78% of its total freshwater use that year. It also says 87% of its freshwater withdrawal came from sources with low or medium risk of water depletion or scarcity. In simple terms, it is trying to reduce pressure on stressed water supplies and return water to local watersheds through projects outside its sites.

Built more efficient Pixel phones

Google says its Pixel 10 series is designed to last longer, with seven years of operating system and security updates. It also says the phones use more recycled material than any earlier Pixel generation, and that the Pixel 10a contains at least 36% recycled materials. The company says an independent testing and certification firm checked the recyclability and recoverability of the Pixel 10a using EN45555:2019, a standard for measuring how easy a product is to recycle and recover.

Published sustainability guidance for cloud

Google Cloud published a sustainability framework that tells customers how to design cloud systems that use less energy and create less carbon pollution. It explains ideas like right-sizing resources, autoscaling, and using serverless tools, which means cloud services that scale up and down automatically. The guidance also says Google is responsible for the sustainability of its own cloud infrastructure, while customers are responsible for making their own workloads efficient.

Used AI for climate tools

Google says it used AI to help with climate-related tools such as fuel-efficient routing in Maps, Solar API, Flood Hub, Green Light, and wildfire detection. It says these products helped individuals, cities, and partners reduce an estimated 41 million tCO2e in 2025. The company also says fuel-efficient routing alone helped avoid over 3 million tCO2e that year by suggesting routes that use less fuel or battery power.
