Hand-harvested seaweed

The seaweed that made the brand famous was hand-harvested by Dom Bridges himself and his trusted team, and physically transported by bus to the brand’s first physical store on the Margate promenade.

Used local ingredients

The brand has focused on a robust, sustainable, local ingredient source and on turning it into products for the community, describing the approach as a “farmers’ market for skincare”.

Grew and gave away food

During Covid, Dom Bridges started giving away the lettuce he grew in the market shop, for free, and also added micro-greens for extra nutrient intake.

Composted packaging

All of the old Shellworks packaging comes to the 72-acre Cornish farm and is composted. Fruit and vegetables are then grown on the farm.

Launched Rewild Body Block

PANGAIA Lab launched the Rewild Body Block, a collaboration by C16 Biosciences and Haeckels, introducing the first soap made with Palmless™ Torula Oil, a lab-grown alternative to palm oil.

Reintroduced as Dulcie

Before re-introducing itself to the world as Dulcie, the brand was called Haeckels. Dom Bridges changed the name after learning about Ernst Haeckels’ racist beliefs and wanted a more suitable name.
