United Fund Drive contributions

Oak Knoll personnel contributed more than $800 more in the drive this year than last, thus establishing an all-time record.

Supported East Bay Crusade

This was the hospital’s third united drive for funds for the East Bay United Crusade and Navy Relief, and the results each year have surpassed those attained in previous years when separate drives were held for Red Cross, Community Chest, Navy Relief, and other health and welfare agencies.

Military exceeded quota

According to figures released from United Crusade headquarters, the military installations in the East Bay are the only group to go over their quota in the campaign.

Staff nurses gave 100%

Staff nurses are to be especially commended for their excellent response to the drive. Under the leadership of LCDR Myrtle M. Warner and LT Phyllis Hanwell, Oak Knoll nurses contributed 100 per cent, their gifts averaging well over a day’s pay.

Enlisted staff special project

The enlisted staff, lagging early in the drive, came through late but with flying colors as a result of a special project that netted more than $700 for the drive.

Red Cross lounge activities

Patients celebrated New Year’s Eve in the lounge — but in a most unorthodox manner. As they came in the door, they wrote out and dropped their New Year’s resolutions into a box. At the close of the evening, a vote was taken for the most original and funniest. The old spirit of team competition was evident in the "Human Spelling Bee" with patients representing the letters and assembling themselves as a word was called out.
