Jack Wolfskin Sustainability Actions

Bluesign system partner

Jack Wolfskin is a bluesign® system partner – for safe and sustainable manufacturing processes. The independent bluesign® system stands for textile production that is sustainable across the board. It imposes the highest standards in terms of occupational safety, consumer protection, resource conservation and the prevention of water and air pollution.

SAC member since 2020

Jack Wolfskin has been a member of the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC) since August 2020. The SAC is made up of over 250 leading apparel, footwear and textile brands, retailers, suppliers, service providers, trade associations, non-profit organisations, NGOs, and academic institutions working to reduce environmental impact and promote social justice throughout the global value chain.

Uses the Higg Index

We use the Higg Index to measure sustainability in a standardised way, aligning with a common language for the industry. Developed by the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC), the Higg Index offers a standardised method of assessing the social and environmental performance of the value chain and the environmental impacts of products.

Chemical restrictions in production

Responsible use of chemicals in all production processes. No harmful chemicals! Thanks to ZDHC MRSL list of banned substances. MRSL stands for “Manufacturing Restricted Substances List” and refers to a catalogue of chemicals that are prohibited, or that may not exceed strict concentration limits throughout the complete production process.

Restricted substances in products

Our Green Book contains stringent requirements for the finished product. In addition to the ZDHC MRSL, we have implemented our own “Restricted Substances List” (RSL) which governs substances and residues in our finished products, including all fabrics and all components such as buttons and zips.

Reduced packaging waste

We avoid packaging waste wherever possible. It is not possible to completely eliminate protective packaging for our products, such as that used when they are transported in containers. We have, however, taken a raft of measures to reduce packaging waste wherever possible.

Work on microplastics

We are working on industry solutions for dealing with microplastics. It’s not just large volumes of plastic waste that are polluting the environment; microplastics – minute and barely visible plastic particles – are increasingly becoming a problem.

Lower CO2 transport emissions

We are reducing CO2 emissions on all our transport routes. The key to reducing our transport-related CO2 emissions lies in a complete overhaul of our logistics processes, the operative phrase being “supply chain management” (SCM).

Green electricity at sites

Since 2012, we have converted the power supply at our Jack Wolfskin headquarters in Idstein, the Jack Wolfskin distribution centre in Neu Wulmstorf and all except for one Jack Wolfskin-owned retail store in Germany and Austria to green electricity. We even generate some of this energy ourselves, using photovoltaic installations at our sites in Idstein and Neu-Wulmstorf.
