JB Hi-Fi Sustainability Actions

Joined supply chain standards groups

JB Hi-Fi is a member of the Responsible Business Alliance (RBA), a group that sets a common code for electronics supply chains, and the Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI), which helps companies track conflict minerals such as tin, tantalum, tungsten, and gold. These memberships suggest the company is taking part in industry efforts to improve labour and sourcing practices in its supply chain. They do not, by themselves, prove that every product is fully traceable or free from risk.

Reported packaging progress

In its 2026 APCO Annual Report, JB Hi-Fi received a packaging performance level of 4 out of 5, described as 'Leading'. APCO, the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation, is a not-for-profit group that measures how well companies manage packaging and move toward a circular economy, which means keeping materials in use for longer and reducing waste. This shows the company has made progress on packaging, although the score does not mean packaging is fully sustainable.

Published climate disclosure data

In 2025, JB Hi-Fi received a CDP Climate Change score of B. CDP is a global disclosure system that asks companies to report how they manage climate risks and cut greenhouse gas emissions. A B score suggests the company has shared meaningful climate information and shown some action, but it is not at the top level of performance. The company also had a low ESG risk rating of 14.4 from Sustainalytics, which points to relatively lower unmanaged environmental, social, and governance risk.

Added on-site solar

Greenpeace's Reenergise campaign noted in 2021 that JB Hi-Fi had invested in on-site solar. The same source also said the company had not committed to 100% renewable electricity by 2030 and had not signed a power purchase agreement, which is a long-term contract to buy electricity from a wind or solar project. This means the company has taken one step toward cleaner energy, but it had not made the stronger public commitments Greenpeace looked for.

Improved modern slavery disclosure

In 2024, JB Hi-Fi's modern slavery statement received an A grade from Monash University researchers. Modern slavery disclosure is a report that explains how a company checks for forced labour and exploitation in its operations and supply chain. A strong grade suggests the company provided clearer and more detailed reporting than many peers. It does not prove there is no risk, but it does show better transparency on this issue.
