TUI’s sustainability agenda includes emissions reduction targets for airlines, cruises and hotels, work on sustainable destinations, and support for the UN Sustainable Development Goals. For Marella Cruises specifically, recent activity includes reducing single-use plastics through reusable coffee cups and working with ship management services that include ESG management and decarbonisation support.

Marella Sustainability Actions

Reusable coffee cups rollout

Marella Cruises, in partnership with The Apollo Group, is rolling out reusable coffee cups fleetwide to cut single-use plastics. The company said in a statement that it hopes to eliminate more than 1.4 million single-use plastic cups, lids and sleeves in 2026 this way. The reusable coffee cups will be placed in each cabin on arrival, where guests can leave them at the end of the cruise. Once used, cups can be returned to The Coffee Port and replaced with clean ones.

Three-month cup trial

Around 3,500 takeaway drinks were served each week at The Coffee Port using reusable cups and lids over the three-month trial period. This is said to have saved 180,000 single-use items including cups, plastic lids and cardboard sleeves.

ESG ship management contract

The five-year agreement will cover the full technical, crewing, digital and ESG management of all of Marella’s five cruise ships, with operations commencing towards the end of 2025. Marella Cruises will benefit both from V.’s end-to-end management services and from V.ERDE, our dedicated decarbonisation and environmental compliance programme.
