Offset carbon footprint

While I work to measure and reduce greenhouse gas emissions from my business activities, I have offset my entire carbon footprint from energy and travel with Carbon Neutral Britain.

Switched to low-waste practices

Waste minimisation and reduction measures include: Local sourcing of food & coffee via farmers markets (unpackaged); Use of packaging free/refillable shops for cleaning products; Use of reusable/refillable bottles and cups when out and about; Use of rechargeable batteries; Double-sided printing and reuse of used paper into notebooks; Reuse of packaging materials.

Adopted wildlife measures

Additional measures to support nature in and around the workplace include: Creation of hedgehog highway, feeding station and hedgehog house; Wildlife-friendly planting - including new trees - to support birds and bees. No peat or pesticides used; Bird feeders, bee hotels and water; Wildflower planting.

Applied supplier standards

Procurement Minimum standard for all suppliers: Compliance with UK laws and regulations including those relating to social and environmental performance; Public statement of good governance including policies relating to ethics and corruption. Suppliers are selected against criteria including local ownership, minority or underrepresented ownership, social enterprise status, and independent certification of social, fair work and environmental standards.

Adopted CIPR ethics policy

For the business, I have adopted the CIPR code of conduct as the basis for its company ethics policy. Employees are required to maintain the highest standards of professional endeavour, integrity, confidentiality, financial propriety and personal conduct; deal honestly and fairly in business; respect legal and regulatory frameworks; uphold the reputation of Matt Appleby Consulting Ltd; and undertake professional training and development.

I chose to work with clients who are having a positive direct or indirect impact on the environment, communities or local economy. Over the last year, this has included Puffin Produce, Food Cardiff, Street Food Circus, Zero2Five and Castle Dairies.
