MELAWEAR Sustainability Actions

Founded in 2014

Founded in 2014, MELAWEAR aims to revolutionize the fashion industry with stylish and sustainable clothing.

Uses certified materials

The brand uses eco-friendly, responsibly sourced cotton and natural rubber. It avoids synthetic and mixed fibers, significantly reducing the need for harmful chemicals. This commitment to organic textiles ensures the clothes are high quality and kind to the planet. As a result, MELAWEAR has earned several prestigious certifications, including the Fairtrade Cotton Standard, Fairtrade Textile Standard, Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), and GrĂĽner Knopf (Green Button).

Uses Cradle to Cradle method

Adopting a “Cradle to Cradle” method, MELAWEAR aims for sustainability in every aspect of their textile production. This innovative approach focuses on creating products that can completely return to nature or be reused without creating waste. The brand works hard to make durable products that stand the test of time.

Works with producers in Asia

Building close relationships with producers in India and Sri Lanka is another pillar of MELAWEAR’s strategy. Such partnerships ensure transparency in the supply chain and adherence to shared values of sustainability and fair practices.

Reduces emissions and waste

MELAWEAR is also deeply committed to reducing emissions and waste. The company prefers shipping goods over air transport, uses climate-neutral delivery services like DHL GoGreen, and sources 100% of its electricity from renewable resources in Germany.

Supports fair labour practices

The brand works closely with small producers and cooperatives, ensuring workers are paid a living wage and treated with respect and dignity. Through initiatives such as fair trade premiums and adherence to ethical standards, MELAWEAR demonstrates its dedication to empowering workers and promoting social justice within the fashion industry.

Produces vegan-friendly items

MELAWEAR is committed to producing vegan-friendly products, with all textiles in its MELA range being vegan. There are just a couple of exceptions: the Ansvar I backpack and their leather sneakers, which are made from goatskin sourced from India. However, even these items are created emphasizing eco-friendliness, utilizing chrome-free and vegetable-tanned leather.
