WWF biodiversity oasis project

Mutti and WWF Italy announced a project to turn land around Mutti’s Montechiarugolo site into a WWF Affiliated Oasis. The plan brings together habitat restoration work that started in 2019, including tree and shrub planting, wetland creation, and a nesting area for protected birds. The project covers about 8 hectares and is meant to support local biodiversity over the long term. The company says the area may later open to the public for education and awareness.

Expanded habitat restoration

Before the new oasis project, Mutti had already carried out several nature-restoration steps on the same site. These included building the “House of Swallows” to support bird nesting, restoring nearby habitat, planting more than 500 native shrubs, and re-naturalising 3 hectares north of the plant. That work also included planting more than 2,000 trees and 5,800 shrubs, plus creating wetlands. The aim was to improve the local ecosystem around the factory.

Code of ethics in place

A Mutti code of ethics was approved by the board in June 2019. The document suggests the company has formal rules for how it expects people to behave inside the business and across its supply chain, which means the network of suppliers and partners that help make its products.
