Published sustainability reporting

Nestlé has published a Creating Shared Value and Sustainability Report, which is a formal report on its social and environmental work. A university study in the material says it used Nestlé’s Global Reporting Initiative (GRI, a common reporting framework for sustainability data) reports to assess the company’s SDG coverage. That suggests Nestlé has been reporting on sustainability in a structured way, not just making broad claims. The same study says large food companies, including Nestlé, show relatively high engagement with the UN SDGs, but still have room to improve, especially on social topics.

Worked on coffee labour rights

Nestlé and the International Labour Organization (ILO, a UN agency focused on fair work) launched a two-year project to address labour risks in coffee supply chains in Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico. The work focuses on fair recruitment and worker protection, especially for migrant and seasonal workers who can face weak protections. The project is linked to Nestlé’s Nescafé Plan and to wider ILO programmes on decent work. This shows Nestlé is trying to deal with labour issues in one of its key sourcing areas rather than treating them as a side issue.

Reduced plastic in pet packaging

Nestlé Purina says it has been working on packaging sustainability, including a recyclable paper pet food bag and a long project to increase post-consumer resin (PCR, plastic made from used and recycled items) in Tidy Cats jugs and closures. The material says the team moved from 0% PCR to 60%, and then to 100% in 2025 for both the jug and closure. It also says the company tracks design-for-recycling (D4R, packaging designed to be easier to recycle) and virgin plastic reduction. This points to real packaging changes, not just planning.
