PAE Sustainability Actions

B Corp and pay equity

As a B Corp, PAE says it measures success by the benefits its projects provide to its clients, its communities, and its planet. PAE is also a JUST label certified company; it says it demonstrates JUST label requirements within pay equity and is committed to the principle of pay equity - paying employees equitably for substantially similar work and work of equal value.

Sustainable design consulting

PAE’s Regenerative Design Group consults on the sustainable design of buildings, including daylighting, shading, water use, occupant health, sustainable materials, embodied carbon, and more. The work includes façade optimization studies, life-cycle assessment studies, water conservation studies, reviews of sustainable materials, and energy studies.

Green building certification work

PAE leads and manages the design and documentation process for green building rating systems including LEED, WELL, Fitwel, and ILFI’s suite of rating systems. This includes reviewing project performance against rating system requirements, developing certification documentation, and supporting internal education and training on sustainability certification.

Living Building office project

Brightworks Sustainability successfully managed the process of achieving the Living Building Challenge Materials Petal for PAE's flagship headquarters. The project is described as the world’s first developer-driven Living Building and a teaching tool for sustainable design and construction.

Solar Equity Grant

PAE lists The PAE Solar Equity Grant among its impact news and updates.

Reduced network infrastructure

PAE’s Portland office drastically reduced network infrastructure by choosing a Wi-Fi-only scheme. After evaluating Passive Optical LAN and limited Ethernet drops, it determined that wireless access points were sufficient, cut construction costs, and used fewer Red List-compliant cables. It also enabled passive cooling in network rooms.

Energy monitoring and automation

PAE used advanced power distribution units to monitor real-time energy usage and connect AV power consumption to the building management system via Modbus protocol. This setup enabled automated power-down routines triggered by occupancy sensors or room schedules.
