PH5 appears to relate to the European Sustainable Phosphorus Platform (ESPP), which focuses on nutrient stewardship, phosphorus sustainability, and phosphorus recovery and recycling. The content centres on policy input, circular economy measures, fertiliser regulation, and events that support reuse and recycling of phosphorus from wastewater, bioeconomy residues, and other secondary sources. It also highlights consultation responses on EU legislation, work on recycled nutrient content, and collaboration around sustainable phosphorus conferences and workshops.

PH5 Sustainability Actions

Workshop on phosphorus reuse

ESPP workshop to input to the development of proposals for phosphorus “reuse and recycling rates” from sewage, update on phosphorus recovery technologies, discussion of quotas (recycled phosphorus content obligations) for fertilisers. This workshop will enable direct dialogue with the European Commission Joint Research Centre (JRC) team working on defining the implementing criteria for the revised Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive art. 20 phosphorus “reuse and recycling rates”.

ESPC6 conference planned

6th European Sustainable Phosphorus Conference ESPC6 24-25 November, Benguerir, Morocco. ESPC is the world’s leading sustainable phosphorus event, every 2-3 years. ESPC6 will include a site visit to an OCP phosphate mine, rock beneficiation and processing. ESPC6 is co-organised by OCP Group and ESPP, with support of UM6P (Université Mohammed VI Polytechnique).

Input to BioTech II

ESPP will input to this consultation requesting: relevance of including nutrients and fertilisers in BioTech II; need to ensure resilient nutrient supply needs to feed crops to input to biomanufacturing; importance of recycled nutrients for fertiliser supply resilience; lead market mechanisms should address not only carbon content but also recycled nutrient content; and support for measures proposed in the Call for Evidence for investment predictability and a single market for secondary nutrients and bio-based fertilisers.
