Porta Sustainability Actions

Reuses wood waste in production

Porta says it turns timber residues and urban wood waste into new particleboard products instead of sending them to landfill. This is a circular economy approach, which means keeping materials in use for as long as possible. The company says this helps reduce pressure on natural resources and supports building products that last longer.

Sources timber from certified suppliers

Porta says it uses timber from certified plantations and controlled suppliers. It also says its Australian-made products use responsibly sourced timber and that its Chain of Custody certifications provide traceability from forest to finished product. Chain of Custody means the material is tracked through each step so the source can be checked.

Uses low-emission substrates

Porta says it manufactures MDF and particleboard with E0 or E1 low-emission substrates. These labels refer to products that release very low levels of formaldehyde, a chemical used in some wood products. This matters for indoor air quality and for reducing harmful emissions during use.

Invests in solar and efficiency

Porta says it is investing in renewable energy and efficient manufacturing processes. It also highlights large rooftop solar systems at its Oberon facility and Bridgewater sawmill. The company says these systems help cut emissions and improve efficiency in its operations.

Supports local jobs and communities

Porta says it is a regional employer that supports local jobs and communities in Australia. It links this to its manufacturing base and says its people play a central role in the business. This is a social sustainability action because it focuses on work, local economies, and community support.
