Published data reduction article

Environmental Benefits: 1. Energy Consumption: Data storage and processing in data centres require significant amounts of energy. By reducing the amount of unnecessary data online, there is a potential decrease in the demand for data centre resources and, consequently, lower energy consumption. 2. Carbon Footprint: The energy used by data centres often comes from fossil fuels, contributing to carbon emissions. A reduction in data storage needs can help mitigate the carbon footprint associated with running and maintaining these data centres. 3. Electronic Waste: Storing large volumes of data often involves the use of physical hardware. Reducing unnecessary data can lead to fewer hardware requirements, resulting in less electronic waste when obsolete equipment is decommissioned.

Highlighted security benefits

Security Benefits: 1. Data Minimization: Limiting the amount of data online reduces the potential attack surface for cybercriminals. It’s a fundamental security principle to only collect and store the data necessary for a specific purpose, minimising the risk of unauthorized access and data breaches. 2. Privacy Protection: Less data online means there is less personal and sensitive information vulnerable to security breaches. Protecting user privacy is easier when only essential data is stored, reducing the impact of potential privacy violations.

Discussed living wage analysis

In our latest publication, we explore how Impact Measurement and Valuation (IMV) is used in practice to identify, quantify, and address living wage gaps across the workforce. Applying a targeted use case of IMV, combining wage data with global living wage benchmarks. Heatmaps revealed key focus areas, and monetized well-being losses made the gaps tangible and actionable. The company applying the use case not only reduced total living wage costs by 27% but also used the analysis to inform executive decisions and launch strategic changes to its remuneration policies.

Advised on sustainable SMEs

This webinar was first broadcast in November 2024 as part of ACCA's global flagship virtual conference – Accounting for the Future. Small businesses are under pressure to be more sustainable. Public opinion and stakeholders facing regulatory demands impose ever greater expectations on SMEs to adapt and change. This session will examine the consequences of failing to change, and share the tools and skills available to SME finance experts seeking to become specialist sustainability advisers.
