Core sustainability principles

RPA applies the following core principles to its operations: RPA provides totally independent advice of the highest quality and remains a highly respected and independent authority in its areas of expertise, both internally and externally. RPA provides a positive, respectful and diverse working environment for all employees, which is an excellent place for innovation and learning. RPA expects everyone across its team to work in line with its values to drive an ethical and sustainable organisation which delivers true excellence. RPA will not work on projects which are likely to result in adverse impacts to human health, public safety and/or the environment.

Improved office energy efficiency

In recent years, RPA has undertaken numerous measures to enhance sustainability performance including improving the energy efficiency of the offices through installation of double glazing and loft insulation and the use of more energy efficient equipment.

Changed energy supplier

In recent years, RPA has undertaken numerous measures to enhance sustainability performance including changing to an energy supplier with a more robust environmental policy.

Virtual meetings and donations

In recent years, RPA has undertaken numerous measures to enhance sustainability performance including providing charitable donations, assisting local organisations with environmental protection policy work and substitution of face-to-face meetings for virtual meetings where possible.

Environmental policy work

RPA’s environmental work puts them at the forefront of four policy areas – flooding and erosion, water and natural capital, marine and fisheries, and environmental economics. Its work focuses on supporting decision-makers at local, national and international level make evidence-based policy decisions, through evaluation, analysis, appraisal, impact assessment, as well as through mixed methods approaches to data collection using both primary and secondary sources.

REACH nanomaterials assessment

This study for the European Chemicals Industry Council (CEFIC) involved a review of the recent RIP-Nano work and of the Commission proposals for defining nanomaterials. The main focus of the work was on assessing the implications for industry associated with possible options for nano-specific requirements under REACH.

UK REACH transition evaluation

In 2023, RPA completed work in partnership with Defra and the UK Government departments and agencies on an evaluation of the early transition from EU REACH to UK REACH.
