Rustic Loom Sustainability Actions

Works with artisans in Ghana and India

Rustic Loom is a woman and mom owned sustainable textile design studio based in Brooklyn, NY. Our purpose is to make modern textiles for the global good. We team with non-profit organizations and small workshops in Ghana and India to pay fair wages and aim to foster a sustainable livelihood for the artisans who make our collections.

Hand makes wares with artisans

We start with painted sketches on paper, edit our designs on the computer, then partner with artisans in India and Ghana who hand make our wares.

Pays fair, sustainable wages

As an artist, designer, and mother I am deeply committed to paying fair, sustainable wages to each partner in the heart felt process of making our wares.

Supports women’s empowerment

Rustic Loom's alliance with individual artisans in India and Ghana, small businesses in the USA who make our labels, pillows and local tailoring, community cooperatives and a women's empowerment organization in India who sew our products makes ethical sourcing happen!

Uses a handmade production process

So many hands go into each Rustic Loom product and I wanted to share with you our process. First, I get inspired (usually by nature), then play with shapes and color using paper stencils in my Brooklyn studio. I then scan the artwork into Photoshop and work into a repeated pattern. I make diagrams for wooden block cutting, select color ways, select yarns for color matching and approve color tests. Pigment is mixed and fabric is hand block printed by master printers in Bagru, India. The fabric is then stitched by a women's empowerment organization providing fair wages for women in India.

Our partner organization employs disadvantaged women who sew our tablewares and housewares.
