ESG reporting crosswalk tool

For developers and property managers using NGBS Green certification in their real estate portfolio, Home Innovation Research Labs now offers a crosswalk tool that aligns the program’s green building practices with GRESB indicators. Home Innovation has also added tabs within NGBS Green scoring checklists that show how a specific project’s green features and performance fulfill corresponding GRESB indicators – streamlining the GRESB reporting process.

Fitwel certification services

SK Collaborative offers Fitwel certification services for residential and commercial projects seeking high impact health and active living design. Fitwel is a building and community certification program that focuses on the health of building occupants and provides expert-informed design and management strategies to improve health by encouraging physical activity, discouraging tobacco use, providing healthy eating options, and providing comfortable and quiet living and working areas with improved indoor air quality.

Zero waste office practices

The company has been making moves toward becoming a “zero waste” office. It replaced plastic juice and sports drinks bottles with aluminum cans of sparkling water, requested no cutlery when catering office events, uses reusable silverware, buys snacks in bulk and stores them in glass jars, and has a small compost bucket in the kitchen. It also added a recycling bin for hard-to-recycle materials and started tracking total office waste.

Reclaimed materials in office

In 2013, when SK cofounder Carl Seville renovated the home that is now the office, he contracted a craftsman to use reclaimed heart pine from old building materials. Certifying the office under EarthCraft that same year also meant less waste through building techniques that reduced the amount of materials needed for construction.

Waste reduction in projects

The company says its work helping residential developments get green-certified already comes with waste management practices. It cites waste diversion from landfill, adaptive reuse of existing buildings, use of upcycled structures and materials, pre-finished materials, prefabricated and panelized components, and specifying Environmental Product Declarations that show products’ cradle-to-grave impacts.
