The Plant Creative Ltd. Sustainability Actions

Plants and ESG benefits

Plants improve air quality, aid in carbon sequestration, and enhance energy efficiency, contributing significantly to ESG goals. Plants are natural air purifiers. They absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen, helping to improve air quality. Incorporating plants in office spaces and urban areas aids in carbon sequestration. Strategically placed plants can regulate indoor temperatures, reducing the need for excessive heating and cooling.

Planet Mark certification

We’re proud to announce that we have achieved the Planet Mark Business Certification. We have measured our own carbon footprint and will continue to take responsibility of our carbon emissions. Through Planet Mark, we are proud to have protected an area of endangered rainforest with Cool Earth. Through our commitment to Planet Mark, we are making a charitable donation to The Eden Project.

Electric vehicles and chargers

All our company vehicles for office staff are fully electric. Our car chargers are available for you, our customer, to use so you can recharge your car as you restock your garden with plants.

ISO 14001 accreditation

For many years we have also held ISO accreditation (ISO14001) that helps keep our environmental responsibilities at the forefront of the ongoing management of the business.

Peat-free compost

The Big Plant Nursery only stocks peat free bagged compost. The benefits of peat free compost include that it holds moisture well and releases nutrients slowly, over a long period of time. Ancient peat bogs are being depleted resulting in a loss of habitat for wildlife and releasing harmful greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere.

Recycling and reuse

We recycle all of our plastics, cardboard, glass, paper waste and ink cartridges. We have a dedicated area for recycling ceramic pots. The team also try and reuse pallets and pots where possible. We have worked hard to remove polystyrene from all our packaging.

Local Scottish-grown plants

We believe in promoting and supporting Scottish based businesses therefore as much as possible, all our plants are Scottish-grown. In keeping products local it helps reduce our potential carbon footprint.

Community planting

Our Greenwood Community plant donation scheme engages with a wide range of community and volunteer organisations to create green community spaces with enhanced biodiversity. We strive to enhance biodiversity and actively promote the use of native plants that support British wildlife.
