Climate Health Victoria established

The Department of Health established Climate Health Victoria in 2024. The role of Climate Health Victoria is to promote climate change and sustainability action in Victoria’s public health system and support emissions reduction.

Renewable electricity in health

From 1 July 2025, the Department of Health offices and large-scale facilities are powered with 100% renewable electricity. This includes hospitals and larger non-acute health facilities and cemeteries.

ESG procurement framework

The Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) Procurement Framework aligns City of Melbourne's procurement decisions with sustainability commitments, goals, targets and objectives by defining key ESG priorities and objectives, assisting purchasing decisions, ensuring ESG outcomes through procurement is business-as-usual, and encouraging buyers to think strategically about environmental and societal risks and opportunities.

Supply chain sustainability

The City of Melbourne aims to promote environmentally sustainable business practices by measuring and reducing carbon emissions in its supply chain, stimulating a circular economy by collaborating with existing and new suppliers, and enhancing biodiversity and climate resilience by supporting healthy ecosystems and collaborating with organisations to address climate risks and build community resilience.

Harmful industries screening

The City of Melbourne is developing an ethical screening process to help identify risks and opportunities and create partnerships with suppliers that prioritise social responsibility and environmental stewardship. Suppliers may be required to disclose relationships with fossil fuels, deforestation, tobacco and related products, armaments or gambling.
