Moved HQ and started an organic farm

In 1998, Anne Fontaine and Ari Zlotkin moved the company headquarters from Paris to Honfleur in Normandy. The brand says they also started an organic farm that produced most of their food and helped cut waste. This is presented as part of a wider effort to live and run the business in a more sustainable way.

Created a reforestation foundation

In 2011, Anne Fontaine set up the Anne Fontaine Foundation in New York. The foundation focuses on reforesting Brazil’s Mata Atlântica Forest and also runs education workshops. The brand says the foundation has planted more than 50,000 trees so far.

Uses reusable sample fabrics

The brand says it uses reusable muslin fabric to make samples before creating a final prototype. Muslin is a plain woven cotton fabric often used for test garments. This approach is meant to reduce waste during design and make the sample process more efficient.

Works with family-run makers

Anne Fontaine says it works with small family-run companies in France, Italy, Brazil, and India. It describes these partners as craftspeople with skills passed down through generations. The brand says it values close work with suppliers and wants factories to meet high standards for social responsibility, worker well-being, and local communities.

Plans for lower-impact materials

The brand says it is looking at new supply chain ideas such as textile-to-textile recycling, regenerative agriculture, circular leather, vegetal leather, and FSC-certified fabrics. FSC stands for Forest Stewardship Council, a system that checks whether wood-based materials come from responsibly managed forests. These are described as future-facing steps to lower environmental impact.
