Weekday is a fashion brand within the H&M Group that has worked on sustainability for more than 30 years through changes in design, production and business operations. Its stated focus includes cutting greenhouse gas emissions, reducing resource use, and improving the lives and livelihoods of people connected to its business. The brand has also taken part in circular fashion initiatives, including the use of recycled or sustainably sourced materials and denim redesign guidelines aimed at recyclability, traceability, durability and material health.

Weekday Sustainability Actions

Circular IFC fabric collaboration

Weekday has become the first brand globally to create a garment using a new sustainable fabric by Infinited Fiber Company (IFC). The brand created a new two-piece outfit, designed in collaboration with "Game of Thrones" actress Maisie Williams and made entirely from IFC fabric. IFC uses technology to turn textile, cardboard and agricultural waste into a cotton-like material, which allowed Weekday to create new fashion pieces from recycled garments without compromising on the quality.

Goal for recycled materials

"Infinited Fiber Company has a really interesting new recycling technique that has potential to help Weekday in our goal towards 100 percent recycled or sustainably sourced materials. For us, this material is extra interesting because of its cotton-like appearance and durability," Ulrika Jakobsson, Weekday's manager of sustainability and responsible materials said in a statement.

Joined Jeans Redesign

Brands like Boyish Jeans, H&M, Seventy + Mochi, Triarchy and Weekday have launched products created with circular design principles based on Jeans Redesign guidelines. The guidelines establish minimum requirements in designing better so that recyclability, traceability, durability and material health are the new normal. Among the criteria, all the redesigned jeans must withstand a minimum of 30 home laundries, be free of hazardous chemicals and comprised of 98 percent cellulose fibers, with metal rivets excluded or reduced for ease in recycling.
