Employs women in Kabul

Ziba’s workforce at its Kabul facility is predominantly female. Ziba employees receive full-time employment and earn above a living wage, and they also have access to English lessons and are taught the skills necessary to work with the modern machinery in the factory.

Sources from family farms

By working directly with family farms and village cooperatives to source true heirloom fruit and nut varieties, Ziba presents only the highest-quality agricultural products, many of which are grown wild.

Pays farmers at purchase

Ziba always pays for its goods at the time of purchase. As soon as a farmer’s available harvest passes the quality control and inspection process, the farmer gets paid, in cash.

Ziba’s traceability program focuses on testing, education, and follow-up & mentoring. The program is designed to benefit the end consumer as well as the farmers the company works with.

Uses a Kabul facility

Ziba bases all production inside Afghanistan within a purpose-built HACCP-certified facility in Kabul, creating jobs and a reliable source of income for family farms across the country.

Uses wild-grown and heirloom crops

In Afghanistan, the majority of the pistachios grow on un-owned land. Provincial governments set annual quotas and allow each village to harvest set amounts. Mulberry trees also grow wild or are planted each year by people as an act of goodwill. Ziba’s dried fruit and nuts come from plants whose traits pass from generation to generation through open pollination.
