Adorn Cosmetics has been minimising the impact that beauty consumption has on our planet since 2008 when Adorn founder Briony Kennedy started her mission to minimise the unnecessary use of precious planet resources in the beauty industry. Her approach to kinder beauty covers 6 key areas to achieve a more planet-friendly brand; they are: Production, Product, People, AND, Development, Delivery and Disposal. So what does this mean? Put simply - it means that at every step of the Adorn journey decisions have been made to create nothing more and nothing less than what is needed to deliver beautiful cosmetics safely to our customers with as little impact on or beautiful planet as possible. Briony and the Adorn Cosmetics team believe in prevention rather than cure, or more specifically, recycling should not be the goal or the only answer when developing products - rather avoiding the use of, or encouraging the reuse of products being the better approach to sustainability. There are many ways in which we achieve this, such as: ~Pioneering Refillable Makeup in 2009. Encouraging the reuse of our packaging. ~Pioneering Skincare Refills in 2011. ~Refill products require less padding and materials to protect them for delivery. Often an envelope is all that's needed! ~Retailing Cosmetics Naked. This means NO outer display boxes or plastic seals. Okay, this has prevented the retail our products in beauty stores for this reason - but we are fine with that sacrifice. ~Small Batch Production. Since we sell direct to our customers we can produce very targeted quantities/volume of product minimising out of date, or less popular products ending up in landfill. ~Samples. Adorn Cosmetics was the first Australian cosmetics brand to offer makeup and skincare samples for sale as a product line to minimise incorrect product purchases leading to landfill and a loss of the resources needed to make the full-size product to start with. ~Robust Refillable Packaging. We make bottles and jars to last so that they can be reused, time and time again. ~Adorner Recycle Program. For the products that can't be refilled they can be returned to us for recycling at Terracycle. ~Biodegradable plastic postal bags and recycled paper gift wrap for orders. We don't use boxes! That way Adorn parcels take up less room in the delivery network - which means less fuel used because more parcels can be despatched at once. ~Build-Your-Own product options. Customers can select the shades in palettes and even the type of mascara wand they want - this type of personalisation helps avoid unused products and waste. ~Online retail. Avoiding retail of products sold in-stores can prevent a number of things: landfill/waste of particular items that don't sell, or have excess stock of, and the fuel to send and return unsold stock. ~Manufacturing locally. This is good for the environment and our local communities. These small, but meaningful steps over the last 15 years have continued to be the backbone of the Adorn Cosmetics brand.
