Measured carbon footprint

In 2021, Ascent set two goals: measure our firm’s carbon footprint; and take steps to reduce that carbon footprint. With the help of GreenStep Solutions, we measured our direct emissions (natural gas consumption) and indirect emissions (electricity, purchased goods and services, capital goods, fuel and energy-related activities, waste in operations, business travel, and employee commuting), following the GHG Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard.

Reduced carbon footprint

Ascent worked with Ostrom Climate Solutions, Canada’s leading carbon management solutions provider, to reduce our carbon footprint. Ostrom’s projects are all third-party validated and verified to ensure that their impact is real, additional and permanent.

Offset emissions plus 10%

As a result of these steps, we are proud to say that we offset all of our carbon emissions plus an additional 10%. Ascent Employment Law was not only carbon neutral for 2021; we were climate positive!

Became a certified B Corp

In 2022, Ascent Employment Law Corporation became a certified B Corp. B Corp certification means that a business is meeting high standards of verified performance, accountability, and transparency on factors from employee benefits and charitable giving to supply chain practices.

Created a Green Team

We have a companywide Green Team that meets monthly to evaluate our operations and make recommendations for improving our environmental sustainability.

Uses transit-oriented offices

Our downtown office locations provide transit service and bicycle opportunities for many staff. We also list subsidized transit passes, bike repair allowances, flexible schedules/telecommuting, compost collection, transit-oriented locations, and EV charging stations among the ways we reduce our impact.
