Beyond Retro began in 2002 as a vintage retailer and describes itself as a key stakeholder in the circular economy. Its sustainability position is centred on vintage, second-hand and upcycled clothing, alongside a growing range of sustainably-sourced new product. The company says it seeks to reclaim, reduce and reuse items, and to make a lasting impact on the fashion landscape through recycling, upcycling and lower-impact operations. It also states that its business has a minus carbon footprint, based on a 2014 WRAP audit of its processes, and that it works to minimise environmental impact through packaging, shipping and training practices.

Beyond Retro Sustainability Actions

Rehomed 90 million items

Last year, alongside our parent company Bank and Vogue, we rehomed 90 million items. Its an amount we’re proud of, but that’s only 10% of the UK’s total textile waste last year.

WRAP audited processes

In 2014, WRAP (Waste & Resources Action Programme) audited our processes, and discovered that by recycling and upcycling from second-hand materials, every year, we save: 608 tonnes CO2e and 300,000 m3 of water.

Recycled store operations

In our stores, we recycle in every way we can. From our plastic bags to our packaging, everything possible is recycled and recyclable. We even recycle our cardboard boxes, shipping them around the world and from store to store until they collapse.
