JOST Australia Sustainability Actions

Sustainable product development & resource efficiency

Excessive material consumption causes negative environmental impacts. JOST products and packaging are designed with a strong emphasis on sustainability, aiming to mitigate these impacts by using materials efficiently. This practice includes aspects such as reducing energy and water consumption, minimising raw material waste, and implementing lean manufacturing processes. This reduces waste, minimises the extraction of natural resources, and lowers the carbon footprint associated with manufacturing. In 2022, we were able to reduce our CO2 emissions (Scope 1 and Scope 2) per production hour by 15.0 % compared to 2021 and by 35.2 % compared to the base year 2020. Material efficiency: Products are engineered to use materials efficiently. This reduces waste, minimises the extraction of natural resources, and lowers the carbon footprint associated with manufacturing. Lightweight design: JOST's products are specifically designed for weight optimisation. Lightweight components, such as aluminium landing legs and lightweight fifth wheels, not only enhance fuel efficiency in transportation but also reduce emissions. Lowering the weight of products directly contributes to a more sustainable supply chain and environmental footprint. Reduced contamination: JOST's use of biodegradable high-performance lubricants minimises environmental contamination. This ensures that our products are not only efficient but also environmentally friendly, reducing the ecological impact over the product's lifecycle. Occupational safety and health: The introduction of assistance systems like KKS, Drawbar Finder, and King Pin Finder in JOST's products enhances occupational safety and health protection for users. By focusing on these aspects, we strive to create products that are not only efficient but also environmentally responsible. This commitment to sustainable product design reduces material waste, promotes energy efficiency, and contributes to a healthier and more environmentally friendly operation in line with our sustainability principles.

National after sales support

We recognise that providing reliable aftersales support is not only about product maintenance but also aligns with our sustainability objectives. Our nationwide JOST aftersales training sessions are dedicated to equipping repairers and fleets with the knowledge and skills to ensure the longevity and eco-friendly operation of their JOST products. In addition to our training programs, we offer a comprehensive range of sustainable service tools and gauges, meticulously designed to reduce environmental impact and promote component durability. From energy-efficient fifth wheel lifting aids to eco-friendly lock test tools and recyclable tow eyes gauges, JOST's sustainable tools not only simplify maintenance tasks but also minimise the carbon footprint, making operations both environmentally responsible and cost-effective.

Responsible supply chain

By holding ourselves accountable for our supply chain, we look to ensure that our suppliers adhere to sustainable and ethical practices. This includes assessing suppliers' environmental impact, labour conditions, and social responsibility. By integrating a uniform evaluation process, we can consistently measure and improve supplier performance in these areas, promoting responsible sourcing, reducing the company's environmental footprint, and contributing to sustainable and ethical business practices throughout our supply chain.

Employee well-being

Our commitment to sustainability extends beyond environmental concerns; it encompasses the well-being and safety of our employees and stakeholders. We are focused on fostering a working environment where employees feel comfortable and can perform at their best through employee-centric sustainability practices. ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety): This achievement reflects our dedication to upholding the highest standards of occupational health and safety. ISO 45001 not only ensures a safe and healthy workplace but also contributes to a positive social impact and fosters a culture of respect and consideration for all. By prioritising the well-being of our workforce, we aim to reduce accidents and enhance employee satisfaction. Workplace safety: Continuously reducing the number of workplace accidents. In 2022, we reduced the number of occupational accidents per 200,000 production hours by 8.8 % to 3.39 compared to 3.72 in 2021. Employee turnover reduction: Reducing the employee turnover ratio. In 2022, we also reduced our employee turnover ratio by 3.4 percentage points year-on-year to 15.4 %. Human Rights Policy: Adopting a Human Rights Policy that enshrines a corporate culture of respect and consideration for all people in the company and business relationships. Access to education: To ensure that each employee has access to equal opportunities, we offer worldwide options that include apprenticeship and young talent management programs.

Customer collaboration

We have achieved product success by ensuring we listen to industry pain points and challenges. Involving customers in the innovation processes and addressing their needs in product development, leads to more efficient, environmentally friendly, and safer solutions. This approach fosters customer satisfaction, minimises resource waste, and reduces environmental impact while supporting long-term partnerships and adaptability in the ever-changing sustainability landscape.

Renewable energy adoption

We are actively reducing our reliance on non-renewable energy to align with global efforts to combat climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Our focus is on increasing the share of renewable energy in total electricity consumption. In 2022, the share of renewable energy in total electricity consumption increased several times to 15.6 million kWh compared to 3.1 million kWh in 2021. Solar installations: Solar energy is clean and environmentally friendly, making it a sustainable alternative to traditional energy sources. New solar installations on the roofs of two manufacturing sites are already producing solar energy, and the construction of additional solar installations is in the planning stage.
