Kari Traa is a Norwegian sportswear brand that describes its sustainability work through environmental topics, supply-chain responsibility, and collaboration. Its footprint content focuses on materials, climate, animal welfare, and chemicals, with an emphasis on selecting materials based on environmental and social factors, reducing emissions, and designing garments to last. The brand says it is gradually increasing recycled polyester, has shifted toward Responsible Wool Standard certified wool, and uses traceable or certified inputs such as OEKO-TEX Standard 100 cotton and FSC- and/or PEFC-certified lyocell. It also references work on science-based climate targets, supplier energy use, and partnerships linked to ethical trade and circular textile work.

Kari Traa Sustainability Actions

Increased recycled polyester

Currently, 45% of the polyester we use is recycled and we aim to increase the share of recycled polyester to 80% by 2030. In Autumn/Winter 2025, as part of Active Brands, we got certified for the Global Recycled Standard and Recycled Claim Standard.

Certified wool sourcing

Today, over 60% of the wool we use is RWS certified, and we are working steadily to increase that share each season. Kari Traa as part of Active Brands has been certified to RWS since 2024. The remainder of our merino wool is declared non-mulesed and traceable through International Wool Textile Organisation (IWTO) certificates.

Used certified cotton and lyocell

Approximately 65% of the cotton we use is certified to OEKO-TEX® Standard 100. We also use Lyocell TENCEL™, a fibre made from wood pulp sourced from FSC- and/or PEFC-certified forests, and polyamide (nylon) for strength and durability.
