Parley Sustainability Actions

Launched Parley in 2012

Launched in 2012, Parley has grown from a series of talks into a global movement of individuals, groups and organizations taking action for the oceans.

Created Ocean Plastic®

Parley worked to develop the world’s first supply chain for upcycled marine waste and created Ocean Plastic® as a powerful symbol of change. Initially sourced from islands in the Maldives, the collection network has expanded to the Dominican Republic and Sri Lanka.

Adidas phased out plastics

The adidas Group moved swiftly to completely phase out the use of plastic bags in its retail stores by the end of Q1 2016. Together with their partner COTY, adidas also ended the use of plastic microbeads across all licensed body care products, and halted the use of plastic bottles in all meetings at its headquarters.

Clean Waves sunglasses

Clean Waves sunglasses are made from marine plastic debris and reclaimed fishing nets. 100% of proceeds support clean ups and education in remote island regions.

Parley Ocean School

Parley Ocean School — Online is described as education for action. The online portal connects curious minds to the knowledge, tools, innovation and inspiration to create change in their communities.

Installed Blue Barrier

Working with PROMAR, Parley Ocean Card Program partners and Cilpen Global, Parley installed the Parley Blue Barrier in the Yaque Del Norte River to stem flow of plastic waste. Since March 2024, it has captured over 500,000kg of waste from the river.

Ocean Card Program waste capture

In the last 5 years, the Card Program has exported over 550 metric tons of plastic waste from island nations like the Maldives and Dominican Republic to Germany to create credit cards, which are normally made from toxic and difficult-to-recycle PVC plastic.
