The company says it uses responsibly sourced materials, recycled metals, water reduction and recycling systems, emissions reduction, solar energy, and energy-efficient methods in manufacturing. It publishes a yearly GRI report and says it was the first jewelry manufacturer globally to assess and calculate the carbon footprint of each product. The content also describes ethical sourcing, fair labor practices, employee well-being, community engagement, and waste reduction measures, including zero waste goals and recycling of casting powder. A separate Salamander Middleburg property is described as having LEED certification, conservation easement land, and local sourcing initiatives.

SALAMANDER Sustainability Actions

Installed solar cells

In 2021, Salamander Jewelry installed 847 solar cells, covering 1,694 square meters. These panels supply 30% of our annual energy needs, significantly reducing our reliance on traditional electricity and supporting global efforts to lower greenhouse gas emissions.

Recycled wastewater

Since setting up an on-site wastewater treatment facility in 2015, Salamander Jewelry has been recycling wastewater from all production processes. This system has allowed us to recycle 3,345m³ of water annually, totaling 23,400m³ by 2021.

Published product carbon footprints

As the first jewelry manufacturer globally to assess and calculate the carbon footprint of each product, we provide a detailed analysis of the greenhouse gas emissions associated with production, from raw material extraction to the final piece. The carbon footprint scores for each product are published on our website.
