SALAMANDER Sustainability Actions

Installed solar cells

In 2021, Salamander Jewelry installed 847 solar cells, covering 1,694 square meters. These panels supply 30% of our annual energy needs, significantly reducing our reliance on traditional electricity and supporting global efforts to lower greenhouse gas emissions.

Recycled wastewater

Since setting up an on-site wastewater treatment facility in 2015, Salamander Jewelry has been recycling wastewater from all production processes. This system has allowed us to recycle 3,345m³ of water annually, totaling 23,400m³ by 2021.

Published product carbon footprints

As the first jewelry manufacturer globally to assess and calculate the carbon footprint of each product, we provide a detailed analysis of the greenhouse gas emissions associated with production, from raw material extraction to the final piece. The carbon footprint scores for each product are published on our website.

Introduced biodegradable zip bags

Our biodegradable zip bags, crafted from plant-based materials, decompose within 3-5 years, a significant improvement compared to traditional plastic bags that take over 300 years to break down.

Implemented zero waste measures

Our zero waste goal includes eliminating scrap material, avoiding single-use plastic boxes, and providing reusable cloth bags for employees. We also implement rigorous waste sorting with three containment bins in every room for material reclamation and melt excess metal for reuse.

Recycled casting powder

One of our standout initiatives is the Casting Powder Recycling and Repurposing process, a complex and innovative method where all casting powder used in manufacturing is carefully recycled and repurposed.

Published yearly GRI reports

In addition to our sustainable practices, we publish a GRI report yearly to ensure transparency and accountability in our efforts.

Joined The Climate Pledge

In 2021, we joined The Climate Pledge. As a signatory, Slalom is committed to measuring and reporting greenhouse gas emissions on a regular basis, implementing decarbonization strategies in line with the Paris Agreement.

Approved science-based targets

In 2024, our near-term Science-Based Targets were approved by SBTi. Slalom commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 46.2% by 2030 from a 2019 base year. Slalom also commits to reduce scope 3 GHG emissions 55% per FTE within the same timeframe.
