Sanrio Sustainability Actions

Sanrio Compliance Charter

In October 2004, Sanrio codified its principles of behavior of not stealing from others, not engaging in violence, not engaging in deception, following the law, and employees working together in harmony as the Sanrio Compliance Charter, which serves as a universal code that all Sanrio Group officers and employees are required to comply with and practice.

Established Sustainability Committee

The Sustainability Committee was established to strengthen the Group's sustainability management initiatives. The committee is chaired by the President and CEO and vice-chaired by the Director of the Corporate Strategy Division. It holds regular discussions four times a year on measures, policies, and the status of initiatives related to environmental issues, such as climate change, and social issues, such as diversity, labor conditions, and human rights.

Sanrio Nakayoku Project

Sanrio's social contribution activity, the Sanrio Nakayoku Project, creates smiles around the world based on the corporate philosophy of Minna Nakayoku (Getting Along Together). The project includes Sanrio Character Aid, where Hello Kitty visits children in hospitals, facilities, and disaster relief areas around the world, and activities that deliver smiles to people in difficult circumstances in cooperation with United Nations Headquarters, JICA, and other organizations.

UN SDG collaboration

Since 2019, Hello Kitty has been promoting the SDGs through collaboration with the United Nations, #HelloGlobalGoals. On the Sanrio Characters YouTube channel, Kitty meets people tackling various global issues, learns about their initiatives to achieve the SDGs, and introduces their stories around the world.

Handwashing and hygiene activities

The handwashing and hygiene awareness activities reminded Sanrio that the charm of its characters transcends borders and cultures.

Donation of school supplies

Sanrio has carried out the donation of 100,000 Sanrio school supply items to children around the world and held a Sanrio One-day English Program at SHISEI GAKUEN Children’s Home, an orphanage in Tokyo.

Sustainable supply chain

Sanrio says it is actively addressing fair and appropriate transactions with business partners, supply chain management, and the Sanrio Supplier/Licensee Code of Conduct as part of its sustainability management.
